I heard of Glen’s passing a couple of days ago but I couldn’t put it in writing right away. I was saddened by the passing of a legacy. I remember going to Florida to visit my parents when I was in my late 20s. My Dad would have me play every chance we got over my two or three week vacation. My Dad played out of Clearwater with Glen. My Dad would lean over and whisper, “he’s the best player of all time”. So I was in awe from day one. And very happy I never had to play against him.
Then, when I started playing for real about 14 years ago, I would see Glen from time to time. Still a great player but past his prime. But he would sit and talk to Ann and I as if we knew each other our whole lives. He would tell me stories of my Dad. He even told Ann, in my presence, that he would take her as a partner, anytime. He said he loved her clearing game. I’m sure it was her charm he liked. Thank goodness for me she didn’t upgrade. 🙂
I remember going to Brazil in 2017. My first time playing out of North America. I remember the Germans talking about Glen’s book being their bible in shuffleboard. I was so proud to have an autographed book myself, so I just sat and smiled.
When Glen learned Ann and I were going to chair the ISA in San Benito, Texas, he was so supportive. He told me he played at Fun N Sun in San Benito and it was likely his favourite place ever. I think it was an East/West tournament. Not sure. Regardless, he said the hosts at that time treated him and the players the best he ever saw. He knew we could do that again. And I believe we did. In large part from the support of greats like Glen.
I am sad to see the loss of a terrific promoter of the sport. He has inspired many player but none more than me.

Louis Beausoleil of Chatham shared a Dickens adaptation of A Christmas Carol It’s called The Legacy of Glen Peltier. Such a great tribute. Author unknown.
Rest in peace, my friend.
