Hi Maureen: After reading your report on decreasing membership, has anyone tried to contact any of the past members to ask what they thought was their reason for leaving or is this a age problem. I have some concerns as the style of play has changed in the past couple of years and I’m wondering if there is a need to change play the same way Curling has adopted the 5 Stone rule to make the game more interesting to watch. Just my thoughts on the game after viewing it for 2 years. Ernest Thomas Niagara Falls,On.
Hello Earnest – I agree with your thoughts about decreasing membership. Any organization comprisedmostly of seniors should be spending a lot of efort to address this inevitable problem. We could be doing a much better job in this regard. About the possible rule change to make the game more interesting: I find we seniors don’t like changes such as this. “The old way is the best way.” seems to be the philosophy. Perhaps a tournament or two with rules designed to enhance interest. Maybe no clearing of the initial “guard” (aka “St. Petes” or “Tampa”). There are national and international considerations of course, but that’s no reason not to experimant, in my opinion.
