Inaugural CanAM Games

As many of you know, the ISA will hold their tournaments every second year. At this point, it looks like Brazil will host the event in 2027. To fill the void in the “off-year”, I am excited to announce the very first CanAM Games. This tournament will be in May 2026 in Beaumont, Alberta. The next CanAM Games will be in the USA in 2028.

There will be 40 players from each country forming 10 teams of four. Canadian teams will only play USA teams and vice versa. You will find the player package and application form below.

This should be a fun, but very competitive, tournament. Let the games begin. 🙂

    Point Standings

A huge thank you to Shirley Bryan for tracking our point standing during the year. Her job has more than doubled in work over the past three years due to all the new tournaments we’ve been having.

Shirley pointed out that there were 15 new amateurs added to the Active Amateur List. There were 7 new experts added to the Active Expert List. Dotty Koert made the Hall of Fame.

This is an outstanding accomplishment all the way around. Congrats to those on the lists.

    OSA year end tournament

Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club – Chatham (from Al Little)

Tuesday September 30, Playoffs Wednesday October 1 for top 8

Open to first 24 teams (due to only 8 courts available) emailing allittle8989@gmail.com
Please only register if you can make it so someone else does not miss out.
    $10/team – all paid back as prize money (@ 24 = $50 first…. $15 eight)

    Bring your own lunch.

If 16-20 teams, we will play 5 – 24 frame games, with 0-1 byes per game
If 21-24 teams, we will play 6 – 16 frame games, with 1-2 byes per game

Each team will draw for a team number and follow pre-made schedule based on
number of registered teams. Then will ensure each team will play different opponents
each game, be on a different court each game, and will start on each colour half of the
    games (6 games-3 yellow & 3 black, while 5 games will be 3&2 or 2&3)

Playoffs for the top 8 is on the Wednesday. 1 will play 8, 2 plays 7, etc playing in a best
of one 24 frame game changing colours after 12. Playing 3 rounds of best of one will
get us out early afternoon at the latest. Winners of 1 st playoff round go to main, Losers to Consolation. For 2 nd and Final Rounds, the highest remaining seed from the round robin starts on Black and plays the lowest seed remaining in that bracket.

No points will be earned and awarded as this is only simulating an O.S.A. event. The
purpose of this is to try this new format as a test before bringing it to vote next year as
to whether we should make any changes to the existing tournament format. Any
feedback after the event from those participating will be appreciated.

    Rodney’s Tournament Results

What a blast. Judd arranged for a local brewery to open up just for our group after Day 1. They set up tables for us next to the stills. A food truck was on site providing terrific meals. Lunches were available all three days. Meanwhile, Tim Horton’s provided coffee and donuts each day.

Thirty one teams came to town to play shuffleboard and that they did. Judd, Betty, and Louise had the facilities in tip top shape. Thank you to the Rodney Shuffleboard Club for all your hard work.

    Rodney’s Open Tournament

As you know, we are limiting the number of teams for the Open Tournament on the 27th to 24 teams. We had exactly 24 teams with nobody on the wait list. I had a cancellation from one team so there is an opening for any team wanting to play.

Please email me if you want to play on Wednesday. It’s first come first serve. 🙂

    Newest Hall of Fame Recipient

A huge congratulations to Dotty Koert for reaching a very impressive 35 points after her first place finish in Blenheim last week. This is the required number of points to be inducted into the Ontario Shuffleboard Association’s Hall of Fame.

I cannot think of a more deserving player. A heck of an achievement.

    Congratulations, Dotty. 🙂

    Upcoming Rodney Tournament

As you know, we had to cut off the entries to the “open” tournament to 24 teams. The good news is that we have exactly 24 teams and nobody has been denied registration. If you registered, you should have received an email from me within the past week confirming your attendance. If you believe you registered, but you did not hear from me, please reach out to me asap. If you want to be on the wait-list, let me know, as it’s possible a team may back out before the tournament.

The amateur tournament does NOT require preregistration. Amateur teams can show up before 8:30am the morning of and register like normal.

Judd and his group have a very entertaining event planned for us. Good friends, good shuffleboard, good food, and beer. I’m in. 🙂

OSA TOURNAMENTS – BYES AND 75 POINTS

    From: Trevor Martin

    BYES AND 75 POINTS

Some people are feeling that a 75 point score being allocated to a team receiving a Bye is too High.
Based on the winning scores at the Coldwater tournament the average score in the Amateur event was 102.8 and in the Open event was 96.9.
Bye games were excluded from the calculation.
The 75 point allocation is for a 24 frame format.

    Ingersoll’s Tournament Results

This tournament was a total success. Team registrations continue to increase year over year at our sanctioned tournaments. In total, there were 19 amateur teams and 28 open teams. That’s up from 13 and 22 teams last year. Wow!

Thanks to the Ingersoll club for providing a terrific facility and ensuring things were ready for all of us. Thanks to Bev for taking her first kick at the can as tournament director. She did a splendid job. And thanks to all of the players for showing Bev patience and for tolerating the heat in the late afternoon.

The presentation was made by Dotty Koert and Evan Engell. This recognition is Henry’s 5th Hall of Fame award and shows his dedication and hard work in Shuffleboard.

    Rodney Open – August 27 & 28

This is the only remaining tournament of this season that will require pre-registration. The amateur tournament does not require pre-registration. You do not need to pay in advance when you pre-register for the Open but I do ask you let me know sooner than later should you have to cancel. We are limited to 24 teams. We currently have 15 teams registered. It would be disappointing to leave an opening if we have teams on a wait list.

    See y’all soon. 🙂

    2025 Canadian Championships in Blenheim

Blenheim does what Blenheim always does. The worked so hard to make their facility and player experience second to none. They show you what shuffleboard is all about. Thank you to the team of volunteers for putting on a first class event.

I owe a special thank you to the Bill Patterson and Bill Dale for being there every minute of every day to make the sure the courts ran perfectly and making third calls. I don’t know what I would have done without Cyndi Lefaive running the TD desk and tracking all those wins and losses for me. It helped me out so much.

And thank you to the players. You guys were great. You just went with the flow. I always enjoy hearing laughter between games and lunch times. It is especially nice when players can play each other as friends while on the court.

16 ladies and 24 men played for three days in very competitive fields.
Winners from 1st to 8th (LtoR): Joanne McLean, Linda Armstrong, Dotty Koert, Linda O’Conner, Bev Doyle, Neta DenOtter, Mary Bryans, and Bernice Lindsay. Congratulations!
Winners from 1st to 8th (LtoR): Len Dodge, Al Little, Roy Babcock, Ken Lefaive, Murray Little, Bob Jones, Art Scott (absent), and Henry Strong (absent).

    Elora’s Tournament Results

Before I jump into the results, I want to first congratulate Jim Corbeil on receiving OSA Hall of Fame status by reaching 35 points. That is one heck of an accomplishment. Congratulations, Jim. 🙂

Marlene Corbeil presenting husband Jim with his Hall of Fame jacket.

What a wonderful and tough pair of tournaments. As always, Elora provided a top notch playing venue. Their volunteers worked hard to make it a great tournament.

We had 18 amateur teams this year compared to only 14 amateur teams last year. Not to be outdone, 26 open teams competed this year (up from 22 last year). Way to go, Players.

I’d like to thank Cyndi Lefaive for helping me in Chatham and Bev Doyle for helping me in Elora. You ladies are awesome. 🙂

While the cat is away ….

Ann was in Halifax for a week so the mouse played. lol.

I travelled to Guelph on Wednesday and I played with their group. They had 34 players on six courts. Great facility and very nice folks. I really enjoyed myself. Some of their players recently started playing in Elora and some are interested in tournament play. Thanks, Guelph. I can’t wait to get back.

I then went to Niagara Falls on Thursday and I played with their group. Ernie Thomas and his crew made me feel right at home. They have a couple of noise makers (a clapper and rubber chicken). It seems the job of those with byes is to make sure they reward your extremely good shots or the worst shots you’ve ever seen, with a lot of noise … drawing attention to what you just did. And they are enthusiastic with their responsibilities. It was so funny and a lot of fun. Thank you, Niagara Falls. It was a pleasure.

    Discs for Sale

Cost is only $50 per set. Dom is currently selling their “seasoned” discs for $139.95.

If interested, reach out to me at evan@northshore.tax. I’ll connect the two of you up. 🙂

    Elora’s tournaments June 3 to 5

Hey Folks. This is a reminder that Elora’s tournaments are coming up. Amateurs play their one day tournament on June 3. The Open tournament is June 4. The top eight teams will have their Finals on June 5. This is always a great tournament, at a great venue, with great hosts. 🙂

Lunch will NOT be provided. We usually stop for 45 minutes for lunch and I believe there are places to get food close by.

Don’t forget, we have our Annual General Meeting at the end of play on Tuesday, June 3, at 4:15pm. It is not an election year, and there are no major developments, so I do not expect it to be a long meeting. This will be a welcome relief after the past two AGMs. lol. Please attend if you can. Click here to access the agenda, last year’s minutes, the president’s report, the treasurer’s report, and the 2025 budget.

Pre-registering and/or prepaying your annual membership is optional (but preferred). It makes it easier for the organizers and faster for you as you skip standing in lines. Annual membership fee is $10. Registration fees are $25 per team per tournament (amateur and open are two separate tournaments).

If you do want to pre-register, send me your team’s names at evan@northshore.tax. If you want to pre-pay, e-transfer the fees to the same address. For your question, just say Shuffleboard. For your answer, use OSAOSA.

    Thanks.

Chatham’s Glen Peltier Memorial Tournament Results

Check out the winners. Congrats to all. Click here to check them out

I have to say that this may have been the most fun tournament I’ve ever seen. With the 8 court limit, there were many folks sitting each round. What did they do? They sat around the fire tables and visited with each other like you would with family and friends at a campfire. Lots of laughter and fun.

The the 24 team limit and pre-registration for the Open Tournament, it was just the right number of games and byes. Every team played two games and sat once before lunch and again after lunch.

Thanks to those of you who prepaid your membership fees and registration fees. It streamlined the beginning of the tournament a lot. Many folks just had to pick up their tag with their team number. No standing in lines to pay. This will remain optional, and I encourage it to make it easier for the organizers and faster for the players, except for Rodney’s Open Tournament. Due to their 8 court limit, it will require pre-registration as well.

Congratulations to Trevor Martin for reaching his expert points in Ontario. Not an easy feat.

Also, the Open Finals came down to the exact same two teams with the exact same results as last year’s Open Finals. Four very tough players. Way to go. 🙂

    Chatham Open Tournament

Thanks to those who have already taken advantage of prepaying their 2025 membership fees and to those who have prepaid their registration fees for Chatham. This will really help streamline things at the tournament. So far we have had sold 19 memberships already.

We have had three teams register for the Chatham Amateur tournament. It is NOT necessary to pre-register for this tournament but it would be appreciated.

We have had 13 teams register for the Chatham Open tournament. Although you do not have to prepay for this tournament, you should pre-register. Registration closes if and when we hit 24 teams.

All those who have prepaid and/or pre-registered have received confirmation. As some banks require a longer password, use OSAOSA. The question you set up doesn’t really matter so just say something like, “what is the best group ever”. The answer is OSAOSA. lol.

My email for questions or e-transfers is evan@northshore.tax. Email is the best way to communicate with me. I do not regularly follow text, Messenger, FB, etc., so I can’t ensure I will get your message.

    Thank you. 🙂

    Pre-paying memberships and pre-registrations

In order to streamline our events this year, I would like to do two things.

First, you must have an Ontario Shuffleboard Association membership to play in OSA tournaments. The annual fee is now $10. This is good for the 2025 season. Membership cards and OSA numbers from previous years are no longer valid. In order to eliminate some of the congestion during tournament registration, please consider e-transferring the money to me ahead of time along with your email address. I’ll send a confirmation email to you indicating receipt of the funds. You can pick up your membership card at the next tournament you attend. This applies to everybody who wants to play in tournament this year.

Second, for the Chatham Open Tournament on May 21 only, you must pre-registrations. The tournament fees are $25 per team this year. Please e-transfer the team entry fee to me along with an email indicating who your team is. In order to limit the number of byes, I am limiting the number of teams to the first 24 that pre-register. We only had 21 teams last year but I want to make sure we can handle the number of teams on the eight available courts. Even if you choose not to pay ahead of time, but wish to play, you must let me know ahead of time.

If we hit 24 teams, the registration will close. If we do not have 24 teams, you can still register at the tournament. Obviously, this carries risks, as you may not get to play.

For those playing in the Amateur Tournament on May 20, you too can pre-register. This will save time and congestion before the tournament starts. If pre-registered, you will only have to let me know when you arrive. Otherwise, registration for the Amateur Tournament will be like normal.

If folks cannot play for any reason, and they have already paid, they will be reimbursed in full. The opportunity to pre-pay your membership and our pre-register for tournaments this year is meant to make it easier for the organizers and faster for the participants on the mornings of.

My email address is evan@northshore.tax. E-transfer to this address. Use OSA as the password.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help. 🙂

    Goderich tournament cancelled

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you the Goderich Tournament has been cancelled. It was scheduled for July 2 thru 4. I know their crew worked hard to keep it in the schedule.

This was a favorite location for me and I know many others.

Fingers are crossed that they find a new facility and get their program back up and running. Although I would like to see it from an OSA perspective, I want to see it even more for the many players from Goderich that lost their place to play all summer.

    Good luck, Goderich.

    Fingers crossed for Goderich

Here’s a recent news article about the status of the Goderich shuffleboard venue. It has always been one of my favourite places to play. I like the club, I like the Bedford Inn. I like the gathering of 15 or more people on the sidewalk restaurant downstairs at least once each year. 100 shuffleboard members strong. Wow!!!

    2025 Tournament Schedule

I have been asked a lot lately about our upcoming season schedule. Click here to see the 2025 Events.

Please note that Goderich has a question mark. Sadly, their facility has been or is going to be permanently shut down. Jim and his crew are trying to find another location. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

I tried to get a tournament in Napanee this summer but it isn’t going to materialize this year. Maybe next year.

If you have better information than currently provided in the Accommodations and Dining, please let me know. I like to keep that section (below the schedule) current as it makes it easier to plan for our tournaments.

    Germany Pricing

You saw the post from Norm that the ISA application for Germany is due March 15. The player package and application can be found in a post below. I have been asked about pricing.

This tournament is different than most. In most, we pay a player package fee that includes lunches, facilities, welcome package, awards banquet, etc. We then pay extra for accommodations, two or three dinners, and excursions.

With this tournament, we pay a small tournament fee of only 100 Euros (approx $154 Cdn).

The hotel package fees cover the rooms and all meals. This is where the cost is. The good news is that we have no reason to leave the hotel after arrival. Everything will be taking place in this facility including shuffleboard. We get six nights (starting with dinner on Sunday night and ending with breakfast the following Saturday morning). The price for this ranges from 1,001 Euros (approx $1,542 Cdn) for a single room to 1,792 Euros (896 x 2) (approx $2,760 Cdn) for two people in the double room with a balcony and view.

We have always had to pay the $75 USD per player fee (approx $110 Cdn) to the ISA. That remains in place.

Excursions are priced between 40 Euros and 50 Euros each per person (approx $62 Cdn and $77 Cdn).

What’s not included? Alcohol drinks (most of the time), arrival, and departure.

As we are staying at the same hotel as we’re playing in, there is no need for transportation after arriving at the hotel. However, transportation is a bit tricky. It includes flying into Frankfurt, taking a train to Fulda, and a taxi to the hotel.

The cost of the flight, I’ll leave to you to figure out. I looked up the cost of the train to Fulda, and it was 45 Euros (approx $69 Cdn) per person each way. The cost of the taxi to the hotel is 120 Euros (approx $185 Cdn) per car each way.

I attached a sheet that I did for Ann and I. Excluding the flight, alcohol, and excursions, and with the balcony room, it would cost us $3,933 Cdn for the two of us. I’d say this is the skinny version (other than our choice of room).

From here, we can decide what excursions we may or may not want to do and whether we want to spend extra nights before or after the tournament.

The exchange rates I used are shown on the top of the form. Obviously, this can change daily.

    I hope this helps.

    Germany Applications

I just received the following from Norm.

    March 5, 2025
Due to the number of players that have applied from other countries for the 42nd ISA Shuffleboard World Championship, the CNSA needs to know who else wants to apply to go. I know we had put April 15th for the deadline but we now need to have your applications in before March 15th.
Sorry about the change and any inconvenience,

    The passing of Glen Peltier

I heard of Glen’s passing a couple of days ago but I couldn’t put it in writing right away. I was saddened by the passing of a legacy. I remember going to Florida to visit my parents when I was in my late 20s. My Dad would have me play every chance we got over my two or three week vacation. My Dad played out of Clearwater with Glen. My Dad would lean over and whisper, “he’s the best player of all time”. So I was in awe from day one. And very happy I never had to play against him.

Then, when I started playing for real about 14 years ago, I would see Glen from time to time. Still a great player but past his prime. But he would sit and talk to Ann and I as if we knew each other our whole lives. He would tell me stories of my Dad. He even told Ann, in my presence, that he would take her as a partner, anytime. He said he loved her clearing game. I’m sure it was her charm he liked. Thank goodness for me she didn’t upgrade. 🙂

I remember going to Brazil in 2017. My first time playing out of North America. I remember the Germans talking about Glen’s book being their bible in shuffleboard. I was so proud to have an autographed book myself, so I just sat and smiled.

When Glen learned Ann and I were going to chair the ISA in San Benito, Texas, he was so supportive. He told me he played at Fun N Sun in San Benito and it was likely his favourite place ever. I think it was an East/West tournament. Not sure. Regardless, he said the hosts at that time treated him and the players the best he ever saw. He knew we could do that again. And I believe we did. In large part from the support of greats like Glen.

I am sad to see the loss of a terrific promoter of the sport. He has inspired many player but none more than me.

You can see Glen’s obituary here: https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/37796091/glen-glen-peltier

Louis Beausoleil of Chatham shared a Dickens adaptation of A Christmas Carol It’s called The Legacy of Glen Peltier. Such a great tribute. Author unknown.

    Rest in peace, my friend.

    Blenheim Update

Here’s a quick update. Each province is allowed to send a certain number of players. Many jurisdictions cannot meet their numbers. Underlying issues are to have enough players to make the tournament enjoyable, competitive, and financially viable. As such, the host province (and other provinces, when possible) are often asked to “fill in” the needed slots.

What does this mean? Ontario will be the last province to make their selection. We first need to know the number of players we can enter into the tournament and then make that selection accordingly.

I know that Norm and the other provinces are working hard at getting their numbers together. I will certainly commit to getting our players selected very quickly after I know the numbers. All players will be notified whether selected or not.

    Thanks for your patience.

I can say we have a very strong selection of players to choose from in Ontario. All our applicants are capable of winning the Gold. 🙂

    Canadian Championships

    Blenheim, Ontario – June 16 to 20, 2025

The application deadline is only one week away … January 31.

This will be an excellent event as the organizers have put a lot of time and effort into it so far. If you have not played in a Canadian Championship (formerly Inter-Provincial), you will be in for a treat. These tournaments are held every two years and they are spread out evenly across the country.

Although the entire package is provided, only Page 2 (Application Form) is required now.

Get your application in. We want Ontario to get the gold. 🙂

I am so sorry. I made a mistake in my reporting of the Open Results. It was provided to me correctly. I just posted it wrong. Placing 1st in Consolation was Maureen Bryan and Dawn Hammond. Maybe I was still a little ticked they beat us enroute to their terrific showing. Who knows? lol.

    Blenheim Results

It is with mixed emotions that I post these results. It’s the last of our OSA tournaments this year. Many of us won’t see each other until next May. I will miss y’all. You’ve been fantastic to work for and your support has meant the world to me. At the same time, it was the most successful tournament since covid. There were 51 teams competing here this week. It was a perfect blend of us old-timers and new fresh faces attending their first tournaments outside their home courts. Thank you one and all.

Congrats and thanks to the Blenheim volunteers. The facilities were terrific and you guys were great hosts, as always. Every detail was attended to. Great job.

    Another Blast from the Past

Stan McCormack and Bill Boyes have done so much over the years to promote shuffleboard. I told Stan that most shufflers will eventually forget most of their tournaments and some of their best shots. But nobody forgets the friendships and shuffleboard family created while playing this sport we all love.

Thanks to you two for your work over the years with the website, posting photos, and memorializing some of the best things this sport has given us.

    Rodney Results

What a turn out for an inaugural tournament. Thanks to the Rodney Team (Judd Kennedy, Betty Mezenberge, and Louise Vanderloon), it was a tremendous success. Helpers Ken and Cyndi Lefaive and Bev Doyle kept the wheels turned in the right direction. And let’s not forget lunch all three days provided by Mississippi Mick. Yummy!

Although it was Betty and Louise’s inaugural tournament, they placed in both the amateur and open tournaments. The rest of us have to keep an eye on these two. Way to go, Ladies. 🙂

This tournament had the largest number of amateurs all season (22 amateur teams) and the second highest number of players in total (47 teams compared to Goderich’s 48 teams).

All of this was done on eight courts and everybody in attendance was absolutely terrific. We changed the format a bit to accommodate the byes and still ensure everybody played 4 to 5 games each. I think the byes may have added to the fun. Folks were willing to pay good money for them by the end of the day. lol.

Thanks everybody for playing along and having fun. I love watching people laugh and enjoy their day. 🙂

Thank you to the Thames Valley Shuffleboard Club for allowing us to join in the fun. Your facilities are first class all the way. Your volunteers did a great job. Cyndi Lefaive did an excellent job as tournament director.

The six new “Experts” are Bernice Lindsay, Norm Lindsay, Murray Little, Al Little, Roger Kellam, and Ken Lefaive. Reaching expert status earning only points in Ontario is one heck of an achievement. Congrats to you all.

    Goderich Results

What a terrific tournament. We had 18 amateur teams and 30 teams in the open tournament. Thank you to the entire Goderich Shuffleboard Club. The facilities looked great and there was clearly a lot of work done before our arrival. Jim Howard was beader extraordinaire. He and his team of volunteers did an amazing job. I didn’t see Gerrit Dykman sitting either. The entire crew were always cleaning courts, boards, the viewing area tables, etc.

Thanks to Muriel Burnett and Eric Wheeler for providing the photos of the finalists. Awesome job!!!

Thank you very much for letting us play in your yard, Goderich. Much appreciated.

    Goderich Tournament

Don’t forget. We have an exciting tournament at an excellent venue next week. Amateurs play on Wednesday, June 26 while the Open will be played on Thursday and Friday. Amateurs are more than welcome to play both tournaments. There will be no lunches served. The Canadian National Shuffleboard Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting during lunchtime on Thursday. Please plan to attend, if you can, as it’s always exciting to hear from our National Organization.

The tournament is being held at the Goderich Recreation and Community Centre at 180 McDonald Street, Goderich. Our contact is Gerrit Dykman at gdykman@yahoo.com.

Their club has asked that tournament players do not come out to their recreational play on Tuesday. They barely have enough courts. We’ll respect their request and thank them for hosting this event.

    See you there. 🙂

    Goderich Shuffling is Happening

Ann and I had a terrific time playing in Goderich on Tuesday. Fourteen courts were needed. A great turn out with a lot of good players. I played a couple of amateurs and it came down to the last frame or two. You could just hear the laughter and enjoyment being had by all. Thanks, Goderich, for running such a good program. John Lynham

Sad times for Coldwater. Apparently, a couple of months ago, Janice Lynham’s husband John passed away. Janice Archer and Janice Lynham have been partners the past couple of Coldwater tournaments, at least. Carol Archer says John will remembered for saying, “and no reward” after making a shot or “good game and no violence” at the end of a game.

Thanks, Carol, for sharing this. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Janice and their family.

    Ingersoll’s Tournament

May 28 – 30 is fast approaching. I can’t wait. Amateurs play on Tuesday, May 28. Registration is between 8:00am and 8:30am. You will get your annual OSA membership card at one table for $5/year/member. You will register for the tournament at another table and it’ll be $20 per team. Teams are “any doubles”. Amateurs will play five games between 9:00am and 4:15pm. There will be a short lunch break. There is a food truck across the road and a Timmie’s within walking distance.

The open tournament is Wednesday, May 29. Amateurs are more than welcome to play in the open tournament. Many go on to take down an expert team or two. The registration tables will be set up at the same time and the five games will play just like the amateur tournament. The only difference is that the top eight teams will come back on Day 3 for the finals. If a team is unable to come back for the finals, they are asked to inform the tournament director so that the ninth place team can move up.

The eight top teams will play two matches on Day 3. Each match will be a best of three games. We should be finished by 1:00pm on Thursday.

Our tournaments are competitive but fun. If you don’t have an enjoyable experience, I have failed as both the President and Tournament Director.

    See you there. 🙂

Agenda for AGM on June 12, 2024

Hey Folks. The agenda for upcoming AGM can be found under the Bylaws and Minutes section of our website. It’s a big meeting in that there will be elections for your Executive Officers. Your input, feedback, and support are vital to the success of this organization.

It’s going to be held after play on June 12 during the Elora tournament. Thank you Elora for letting us use your fine facilities once again. 🙂

Thanks … and let’s keep adding to the list

This is the list so far (under Club Information) on our website. It’s a work in process but with all y’all’s help, we’re getting there. I would like to see it so that when us shufflers travel away from home to visit friends, family, vacation, or whatever, we have the ability to see where folks shuffle in that area and get a game or two in. It’s always fun and you meet great people.

Let’s keep working the list. 🙂

    I need your help

I am trying to gather and compile all of our shuffleboard clubs in Ontario (even senior centres). This will be put on our website. If you know of a place where they regularly play, can you please reach out to them and get their town, day(s) and time(s) they play, location and address, a contact name, and their email address.

I already have the information for Blenheim, Chatham, Coldwater, Elora, Goderich, Ingersoll, Napanee, Rodney, Scarborough, Simcoe, and Tillsonburg. I reached out and learned Blackstock and Picton no longer have programs.

    Goderich Tournament – quick note

Last year, amateurs were allowed to play the day before the amateur tournament. This caused some confusion with their rec players. To be respectful of their members, guests are not invited to play during their Tuesday rec play (June 26).

On behalf of the OSA and its members, thank you Goderich Shuffleboard Club, for allowing us to use your wonderful facilities on the other three days. We appreciate it a lot. 🙂

    Accommodations and dining

Here are the recommendations from our tournament hosts (and where Ann and I stay or will stay). Please add places if you have a favourite hotel/motel and/or restaurant:

Ingersoll – Comfort Inn or Elmhurst Inn. Tim Hortons is walking distance from the facilities. Lots of restaurants in the area including Chuck’s Roadhouse, St. Louis Pizza, Ingersoll Golf Course, etc. This is the only location Ann and I can drive to so I don’t have any experience in this area.

Elora – Village Inn and a few chain motels/hotels. Lots of good restaurants in the area. We are booked at the Village Inn. Nothing to write home about but it has actually gotten better the last time or two we’ve been there. There’s a Timmie’s and Family Restaurant just up the street from there.

Goderich – Ann and I have always stayed at the Bedford Inn. There are many good places in the area. We like the restaurant next door to the Bedford Inn too. 🙂

Chatham – The Comfort Inn and the Holiday Inn next to the Casino are great places. Lots of good restaurants. The restaurant at the Casino has always been very good. Ann and I are booked at the Holiday Inn this year.

Rodney – Accommodations include the Best Western Plus Stoneridge Inn (30 minutes away) and two RV Parks: Lakewood Resort and Port Glasgow Trailer Park. There are restaurants in Rodney for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Shannon’s, Southside, Tim Hortons, and Out to Lunch and Sam’s Diner in nearby West Lorne. Ann and I are booked at the BWP Stoneridge this time. Their restaurant looks good too.

Blenheim – See the Chatham locations. CM Wilson Conservation Area is great for the RVers. Ann and I are booked at the Holiday Inn near the Casino.

    Simcoe players rock!

I joined the Simcoe Senior Centre shuffleboard players last week. They meet every Wednesday afternoon. A great turnout with 12 players filling all three courts. I would normally say the courts were drifty and fast BUT, it seems I was the only one having trouble with the courts. Everybody played awesome and we all had a blast. Thanks, Simcoe, for letting me join in on the fun. 🙂

    Beware of Scammers

This is a more serious matter. A couple of years ago, Ann and I fell victim to a scam. I’ll leave the names out so that future scammers have to work a bit harder but you’ll know who I mean. The scammers used the first names, last names, and titles perfectly. We received a message from the then CNSA president saying the CNSA needed money and that the then treasurer was away for a few days. Was there anyway we could access the CNSA funds and transfer it to this place. As the message was so well written, and so personally written, we transferred it from our personal account thinking we’d get reimbursed when the treasurer got home.

Within hours, we received another request asking for a bit more money as it turned out not to be quite enough. Sadly, that is when the bells started ringing and lights started flashing. Bottom line is we got taken. Obviously the CNSA had nothing to do with this.

I only raise it as one of our board members recently received a request from me asking for money because the treasurer is away. He was smart enough not to do it but when he told the scammers he couldn’t get the cash, they were willing to accept Visa and/or Apple Gift Cards. Very creative. lol.

BOTTOM LINE IS … The CNSA or OSA will NEVER ASK YOU FOR MONEY. Should you get a request, IGNORE IT. It is a scam.

    Evan
