Roy Babcock’s Shuffleboard Journey
In 1998 Roy and Lynda decided to spend their winters in Florida. Lynda being a nurse got a job at the Bradenton Hospital. Roy wondered what to do with himself. He found out about shuffleboard and decided to go to the courts and watch the “Pro Big Boys”. Roy has always been involved with sports so it didn’t take him long to want to play shuffleboard….he was hooked!!
Today it gives me great pleasure to honour Roy Babcock for his induction into the Ontario Shuffleboard Association, Hall of Fame Player Category.
Roy played his first Ontario singles shuffleboard tournament in 1999 at Newmarket. Wherever there is a shuffleboard tournament you will see Roy. You would say……Roy is just a little bit competitive!!!
Roy has represented Canada in 5 International Tournaments…twice in Midland, Ont, Dieppe, NB, St Petersburg, FL and Clearwater, FL. In 2014 he was a member of Team Canada that won gold in the ISA Championship in Midland, Ont. Roy brought pride to Canada in 2013 when he placed 3rd at the St Petersburg Singles ISA Championship.
Roy was presented with the USA National pin for placing 1st at the National Singles in 2012 at Bradenton, Florida.
In 2014, Roy achieved his 35 points to enter the Florida Southern District HOF. Roy’s name is on a brick in the Hall of Fame walkway at the Lee County Shuffleboard Club in North Fort Myers, FL. Roy has qualitied to play in the Florida Southern District Masters for 10 consecutive years.
For the many shuffleboard accomplishments Roy has achieved, he gladly gives back to shuffleboard by serving on the CNSA Board as 2nd Vice President for four years.
Thanks to Roy for teaching many of us the skills of shuffleboard. He may “take you to the shed!!” or give you a list on how to make you a better shuffler……..one being “half a hide is better than no hide!!” The list is long……..Doesn’t matter how long the list is Roy, we love you. Its friends like Roy that we meet along the way that helps us appreciate life’s journey.
This is truly a special day for both of us Roy, with our achievement of 35 Expert points that is required for us to be inducted into the OSA Hall of Fame.
Thank you, Roy for being a partner to Rendall and me in many shuffleboard tournaments .
You have enriched our lives with your friendship and love.
It is truly a privilege and honour to present our friend Roy Babcock into the OSA Hall of Fame in the Player Category Award.
Sincerely
Rendall & Myrna Bilton June 14, 2017 Elora, Ontario
