Coldwater Congratulated By President Rogerson

Carl Rogerson 20190612 s

Carl Rogerson

On behalf of Pres. Carl Rogerson, OSA, I would like to extend a congratulations to this amazing club. Coldwater!!!!  Go on the web to see all results for Amateur and Open.

Having 30 entries in both the amateur and open divisions is to be recognized by all other clubs. Lets see if we all can even come close to this turnout.Congratulations to all players, win or lose. Lots of groans and laughter had by all.

The banquet was again well attended, nearly 90 eating their way to success. Lunches available for us all, and allowing camp sites is a great reward too.

They have hard working helpers, and we must give their Pres. Carol Archer, a cheer as the tournament was very well organized.

Thanks to our tournament director, Ruth Tate, who hasn’t done this job for awhile, but she never missed a step. She is so calm and wears her warm smile, which carries through to a successful tournament.

Maureen Bryan, Sec. OSA.

Marlene is Home!

As many of you already know, Marlene had been admitted into the London hospital. Her problem was diagnosed as a very serious infection near her lungs. In talking to Jim Corbeil by phone a few minutes ago I learned that Marlene was able to come home from the hospital this afternoon. I’m sure that everyone who knows Marlene and Jim is most relieved and thankful for this good news!

The CNSA’s Successful IP, by Jim Corbeil

The 2019 Inter-Provincial Tournament (IP) was a great success. We had 6 ladies and 6 men’s teams competing for medals.
The Manitoba men’s Purple Team , and the Ontario ladies Yellow Team took home the gold,
We had 1 player, Maureen Bryan, win all 12 games. Congratulations to Maureen.
A big thank you to Muriel Burnett for taking all the pictures and putting the results on the website. She did a great job. Everyone was very impressed with her pictures and speed of getting them on line.
Thank you to Norm Lindsay and his assistant Gerry Van Ginkel filling in as Tournament Directors for Marlene Corbeil. They did a tremendous job and we sure appreciate them taking over.
Thanks to Trevor Martin for maintaining the courts, and to Gerrit Dykman for his help,
Murray Burnett and Al Rathgeber were inducted into the CNSA Hall of Fame. Al could not attend so Bob Lockwood Read his induction letter and accepted his HOF jacket and pin. When listening to their bios, I thought they are both most deserving of that honour.
I want to thank all the players and congratulate them. They all represented their provinces with pride and respect.
We had a very good AGM where everyone had input in all  goings on in the CNSA and I hope we can move forward with all provinces involved.
We have a lot of knowledgeable people across Canada and we want their input and participation.
The 2021 IP will be held in Quebec City, Quebec. This is a beautiful city and I am sure the IP will be very well attended.
Again thank you to all the players and their families for attending the 6th IP in Ingersoll.
Regards,
Jim Corbeil President CNSA

OSA’s Carl Rogerson Congratulates CNSA for Interprovincial

The OSA , congratulates the President of the CNSA, Jim Corbeil and his board members for hosting the 6th Interprovincial tournament in Ingersoll this past week. There , we met players from across Canada, in competition for medals, but in the end we all made friends with each other and took home great memories. There was a lot of oops and oh no shots made by all of us, but there was more laughter and hand shakes made in return. We all send our best wishes for our tournament director, Marlene Corbeil, who had put in many hours of work to get our schedules of play organized, but couldn’t attend due to medical conditions. We send our prayers for her speedy recovery, and our support to Jim and their family , as she continues in hospital to recover.

We thank Norm Lindsay and his assistant Gerry Van Ginkel for stepping up and carrying on with the directing of this week long tournament. They did an amazing job !!!
We also don’t want to forget those who helped with the courts, getting them ready for us to play every day!!! When a crisis occurs, it is incredibly how others step up to the plate.
Every day we had snacks and huge delicious lunches for all in attendance. The catering was very well done. No one went away hungry.
We thank Muriel Burnett for her work as the web master, who took photos all week. These will be posted online, for all to enjoy.
Congratulations to Murray Burnett, treasurer for the CNSA, for receiving his CNSA award into the Hall of Fame, special awards category. Well deserved for his work he does for us all.
The last evening of the tournament, we had a fun time reflecting on the week gone by, with a delicious banquet, some door prizes won with their lucky tickets, and the medals to the top three places , in the ladies and men divisions were given out. Congratulations to all players, win or lose, this is a game we all love to play. We said our goodbyes to all of our new found friends in the shuffle world, wishing a safe travel home, best wishes until we meet again.
Regards Carl Rogerson, President, OSA.

OSA President Carl Thanks Goderich

On behalf of the OSA, we would like to thank Goderich once again for holding the OSA tournament June, 25-27, 2019.
We are grateful to all the workers, who put a lot of effort into this endeavour, their board, the food which was provided for us all, and the wonderful courts they have in the venue, some with a little more challenge than others. So great to meet old friends and make new ones. We all look forward to these tournaments, and we need to support these events. They are a great deal of work for those who host them and an expense as well.
Come out, we need more amateurs, they are our future of this game we enjoy.

Regards Carl Rogerson, Pres. OSA.

OSA President Carl Rogerson Thanks Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club For Tournament

Carl Rogerson

Carl Rogerson

June 11-13, 2019, Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club once again put forth their usual effort, to give us all a superb, OSA sanctioned tournament. It was well attended, with 17 Amateur teams, and 24 expert teams. This was extra special this year as 11 experts received their OSA-HOF jackets. Carl Rogerson was inducted into the OSA-HOF for 2019, and Rendall Bilton was inducted into the OSA-HOF with the President award.

We thank all those volunteers, they have so much help in this club, working on the courts, in the kitchen making delicious lunches, baking pies and home made tarts. Not to mention the home made soup that warmed us up , as it was chilly weather this year.
We thank all theses who come and support our tournaments, we need everyone’s help to keep shuffleboard healthy and alive. Don’t sit at home , get out and meet your new and old friends, We will be sitting still in front of that TV or in that chair all too soon, keep active and participate.

Special thanks to our tournament director, Marlene Corbeil and hubby Jim, who always do a great job and keeps the day moving.

We also had our annual AGM on the Tuesday evening, which will be online shortly.
We have 3 more tournaments left, see you in Goderich, Coldwater and Bleinheim.

Regards Carl Rogerson , OSA President.

Ingersoll Tournament Congratulations

From OSA President Carl Rogerson, JUNE 2/2019

On behalf of the OSA , i would like to thank the Ingersoll Shuffleboard Club on their successful CNSA tournament, May 27-29, 2019.

It was well attended,  although we would like to see more Amateurs out to participate in these tournaments.  Only having 11-12 teams competing doesn’t show the skill we know the non competing players have. Please come out and support your clubs.

In the open event, there were 31 teams. Amazing!!!!  This is so awarding to see.

Congratulations on all who played,  win or lose,  this is the game we all love to play.  Meeting old and new friends, laughs along the way, with great memories.

Thanks to Marlene Corbeil once again,  she does an amazing job in directing these tournaments,  along with her side kick, Jim.

To the helpers, and food vendor, again thanks to all.

Last note to anyone out there,  Marlene would like to train someone in becoming a director, when she decides to quit,  we will not have anyone to take her place ,  then what!!!  Please consider this soon!!

  Regards Carl Rogerson, Pres. OSA.

I have answered that I know of outdoor courts in Midland Ontario. If anyone knows of any others, please let me know and I’ll pass it on.

Change of Date for Coldwater CNSA tournament

The Coldwater shuffleboard club have asked to change the date of their CNSA Tournament from July 30 – Aug 1 to July 23-25th 2019. They were going to host the IP  and had to move the tournament forward, but now the IP is in Ingersoll they would like to move it back to the earlier date. This will keep a two week span between Coldwater and Blenheim. This should work out better for both tournaments.
Thank you

Outdoor court needed.

We hope one of our readers will be able to help Jeff in his search for an outdoor court. Details follow:

My name is Jeff Mitchell. I live in Barrie and have a summer property in Muskoka, where we have an outdoor 40′ shuffleboard court. It is a cement base, but has deteriorated over the years. Approx. 15 years ago we obtained a roll up rubber/vinyl surface, but unfortunately it too has deteriorated and needs replacing.
I believe the new format of the Click poly tiles would work best in our setting.
I was just speaking to Carl Rogerson, and he graciously suggested that I should be connecting with Bill Boyes. Which is the purpose of this message. My number is 705-734-5648 / email – jmitchell@stoneridgeinsurance.ca
Since we only use the court recreationally, I am somewhat challenged to purchase a new one for $1,250 plus. Therefore if you could post on your site my request / offer to purchase a slightly used Poly Click surface that would be greatly appreciated. At this stage I truly won’t need til next spring; so if you are aware of a playing surface that is available either new or used for under $1,000 that would be greatly appreciated.

Malvern Startup

Webmaster’s note: Just noticed that this artical was posted to the Canadian site instead of Ontario’s.

Forwarded from Jim Corbeil

I was asked if I could assist the Malvern Centre in Toronto with their new Shuffleboard program for seniors. Marlene and I were very impressed to see so many people interested in shuffleboard and enjoyed helping such enthusiastic people that knew nothing about the game.

We arrived at the Malvern Family Resource Centre Friday Aug.24.
Thiviyaah, Pushparajah, Senior Program Coordinator and her staff where
busy rolling out the 2 shuffleboard courts and setting up chairs as
some 30 or 40 people filled the gym.

This group of people were eager to learn and play shuffleboard. Tyviyaah said they are just getting shuffleboard started in their
Seniors program.

After a short talk on how to play and going over some of the rules,
Marlene and I each took a court and started to show the players how to
hold their cue and how to shoot the disc down the court.

We tried to let as many people get a turn at playing in the time we had to work in, and in that short time everyone seemed to really get into the game. I think with a little practice and just shooting the discs down the courts they will have a great shuffleboard program. Most, if not all have never played shuffleboard before, in fact one person asked me. What do you call this game?

When we were finished the people were leaving to go to a barbeque put on by the Malvern Centre. It looks like it is going to be a great program but they are going to
need a little help to understand the game. If needed we will return
again to assist

I cannot say enough about Thiviyaah and her staff for their hard work and dedication to the program. And by the way Thiviyaah and her staff are all women. With a little more time and practice I am sure the shuffleboard program will grow to be one of their most popular events.

Thanks to the Malvern Family Resource Centre, Thiviyaah and her Staff for asking us to come down. I hope in the near future we have some players from their program involved in the Ontario and Canadian shuffleboard tournaments.

Jim Corbeil, President CNSA

NOTCE FOR APPLE TOURNAMENT PARKING

From: Ron Ferguson –
I was informed by the town/St.Marys this afternoon of a hiccup to our plans for the tournament on Monday, Sept. 17th:

They have arranged to dig up and re-pave the parking lot that we use for Curling and Shuffleboard. Apparently, they have NO ALTERNATIVE DATE to do this job. It has to be Monday Sept. 17th. Our tournament day!

**THEREFORE, parking for that day will be, north of the Tennis Courts OR to the south of our existing parking lot.

Town Employees will be on hand to direct shufflers as where to park.

The town have promised us, a shuttle bus.. Between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, IF NEED BE. …………….THE WALKING DISTANCE IS NOT VERY FAR!

Thanks to Blenheim (Golden Acres Shuffleboard Club)

THANKS TO BLENHEIM- AUG. 7-9, 2018

On behalf of the OSA,  I want to thank the President of Golden Acres Shuffleboard Club, Ted Vercouteren, and Roger Kellam, Sec./Treas.,  for hosting our last OSA tournament of the year.  Their many helpers in this club did a tremendous job with the courts,  delicious lunches provided for the competitors,  and made everyone feel so welcomed.

We must thank the tournament director and her side kick,  Marlene and Jim Corbeil,  for all their work and dedication they put forward towards all our tournaments.  Marlene would love to have someone step up and learn how to be a tournament director,  and she would gladly teach them.  Please consider this.

We were also pleased to see new amateur players from Blenheim competing in this tournament, and many did extremely well.  This is a new learning experiment for them, and they showed that they are very ready for this.  We expect to see many more out next year from this club, showing support for their club, they are ready for you!

Congratulations to all participants, win or lose, it’s still a game!

I personally couldn’t attend this tournament, but reports sent to me were very positive, congratulations Golden Acres Shuffleboard Club.

Regards  Carl Rogerson –  President OSA.

Hubert Van Eerd Inducted Into the OSA HOF presentation by Glen Peltier.

Thanks to Stan McCormack for posting on his website.

New post on The Celebration Is Over! The Adventure Begins

Hubert Van Eerd Inducted Into the OSA HOF by Glen Peltier. 2018 08 08.

by stanistheman

Hubert Van Eerd is presented by Glen Peltier, AND "Pinned" by wife Cathy

QUIET, UNASSUMING, UNSELFISH, SHYS AWAY FROM RECOGNITION; all words that describe to-day’s INDUCTEE into the OSA HOF!! We are speaking of HUBERT VAN EERD!!

Hubert demonstrates these characteristics on a regular basis with regard to Shuffleboard! Whether he is south of the 49th Parallel, or North of the 49th, shuffleboard can count on Hubert, shufflers can count on Hubert!!

Glen Peltier "presented" Hubert to-day in Blenheim, and spoke about Hubert’s attributes. Hubert was "pinned" by his wife Cathy. See pic at top.

Glen has spoken highly of Hubert in the past; offering this comment on one such occasion: "I have been associated with many people that I feel have done so much for shuffleboard and get very little credit or recognition. One such person that i feel belongs on the top of the list is Hubert Van Eerd. He arranges the league at the Thames Horizon Club in Chatham, the monthly single/mingles tournament and all that goes on. He works for weeks getting the building and courts ready for play before the season starts. The most amazing thing about Hubert is he makes everyone happy and satisfied no matter what is going on. The league is on Thursday and he works till night time on Wednesday making sure everyone is paired up right. He has all the teams evenly matched to guarantee top quality play. He does the same in Florida at Sanlan Park. All the members at Chatham and at his park in Florida appreciate Hubert. Hubert is still a very good player and could of been a top pro in Florida but instead dedicated his time, so many others can enjoy the great game of shuffleboard. No words that I can write can express the amount of joy he brings to so many. We depend so much on Hubert, I hate to think of what we would do without him. Glen Peltier"

Glen speaking to-day; 2018 08 08 Most Canadian Shufflers can remember when the Thames Horizon Club (THE BARN) "shut down". Many abandoned hope that the Club would ever return. Hubert did NOT!! He loaded up all the scoreboards discs etc. and stored them at his home. He made arrangements with the city to use the Kinsman building; applied for and received a grant for ten roll out courts; contacted all the members and kept the club alive!! After several years Hubert made arrangements with the new owner of the barn, and we are now back in the barn!! This has all happened because of the determination and dedication of one very unselfish man. I am very honoured to present that man to you to-day. I give you Hubert Van Eerd, a most deserving member of the OSA Shuffleboard Hall of Fame.

Glen Peltier. 2018 08 08

Thanks to COLDWATER for CNSA Tournament

I want to thank the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club for holding the CNSA Tournament this past week. President, Carol Archer, her Executive and all the volunteers did a great job.
The Banquet was a complete success, the food was great as usual.
Coldwater will be hosting this CNSA Toutnament again next year.
Coldwater has a population of 1100 and their club has a membership well over 100. They also have a special needs group of around 20.  That tells me that they are doing somthing right.
That is why Coldwater is known as the Shuffleboard Capital of Ontario.
Clubs in larger towns and cities do not have this kind of membership.
We are looking forward to the Inter Provincial next July 7th-11th,  2019.  I am sure the Coldwater Shufffeboard Club will be up to the task.
I hope that all the Provinces will have at least one woman’s team and one man’s team.
Thanks again to the Coldwater Club for a great Toutnament.
Jim Corbeil, President CNSA.
