Just home from the CNSA Shuffleboard Tournament at Coldwater..
Sincere “Thanks” to Coldwater Shuffleboard Club and President Carol Archer for hosting a successful tournament.
Thank you to CNSA President Jim Corbeil for his leadership and Marlene Corbeil for being the tournament director. Many thanks to the volunteers.
These events …don’t just happen!! It takes many hands who work tirelessly for the love of shuffleboard.
Coldwater will always be special to my husband Rendall and myself. We played our first tournament in 2008 at Coldwater. Don’t mistake the name Coldwater……the people are extremely warm, friendly people. It was great to see Stan McCormack, Gary & Barb Pipher, Ross Pipher, Bev Fowler, George O’Reilly and many more of our shuffleboard friends. We did a lot of reminiscing of our shuffleboard tournaments. We sure missed Bill & Lorraine Pollock. We keep Lorraine in our prayers for good health and to Bill for being her faithful caregiver.Rendall once said “Coldwater Shuffleboard Club is the Shuffleboard Capital of Ontario”.
Thanks to Gary Pipher, George O’Reilly and helpers that put up the sign…….Rendall is very happy to see this prestigious sign.

Shortly after this re porter arrived on the scene within The Gorge” restaurant (known to be a favourite haunt for shufflers), Carl Rogerson, the newly elected OSA president, insisted we all end our meal with a little ice cream, with 10 spoons!. The following pictures are but a sample of the “shared fun” as the ice cream made its way around the table. (Click on a picture to enlarge it).
The Golden Acres Shuffle Club, located in Blenheim, On, continues to attract new members to the 3 year old club. To date this year, 15 new members have joined the 16 court club bringing their full membership to 90 members as of early June. Someone new seems to arrive each week from “word of mouth” which is a credit to our existing members speaking positively about the club. League play occurs Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings from early May until late September. 3-16 frame games are played in a jitney style which appears to favour both seasoned players and newcomers to the game and new friends are developed each week. Monday mornings are the most popular with 79 registered players however Wednesday night’s participation has increased 33% over 2017 with 48 members now registered. Wednesday night play also changes the format by alternating each week between regular play and “Hoss Collar” and “Build a House” to give some variety to players that play both days. The club is located in the Golden Acres Curling Club.
ATTENTION OSA MEMBERS. Election year, June 12-2018, at the AGM.
Let’s see new members take on some of the open positions on the board. We need new ideas, and lots of enthusiasm. This is your chance to have your voices heard and make the OSA even stronger. Be sure to attend this important meeting, we need to keep our game of shuffleboard active and fun. We need growth in all clubs, and we need your support in doing so. See you in ELORA. On behalf of the ISA (Myrna) and the OSA (Rendall) we send our deepest condolences to Stan and family on the passing of Lois.
Lois was well known at all levels of the shuffleboard families. From local clubs to travelling with the ISA. Lois was a “wonderful lady” and was well respected by all who knew her. We feel blessed to have known her. We will treasure the wonderful memories of our friendship and travels with Lois and Stan.
May Gods love comfort Stan and family now and always. A family is a circle of love, not broken by a loss, but made stronger by the memories.
We keep you in our thoughts and prayers
Love Myrna & Rendall
With great sadness I have to inform you that Lois McCormack has passed. Lois was always a pleasure to be around. She was a very good shuffleboard player, and could compete with the best of them.
Lois and her husband Stan have done so very much for the sport of Shuffleboard. She was always there to help Stan
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Stan and the family.

As in the last several years our OSA tournaments have been mainly held in southern Ontario. We would like to see this extended over a wider area of our province. We now have CNSA tournaments in ingersoll and Coldwater, as well as OSA tournaments in Elora, Goderich, and Blenheim. We know it is a commitment for a club to host these events but we would like to see a stronger shuffleboard participation, especially further east and north within the province.
Any ideas would be appreciated on how some of this could be done, please send to me, and we will read your input at the OSA Annual General Meeting June 12th, 2018, in Elora.
To all: Please forward this to your club president.
Replies may be made to OSA webmaster, Bill Boyes – shuffleboardbill@gmail.com.
Thanks for your time, regards

We were grateful to have had the opportunity to park our campers at the Cheese and Agricultural Museum not far from the courts. We counted 11 campers……..lots of camaraderie!!!

Coldwater Shuffleboard has lost another treasured member of the Club. Eleanor Simmons passed away on April 30 at the Solders Memorial Hospital Orillia her 82nd year.Eleanor joined the Coldwater Club in 2006 and has always been a very active player and enjoyed meeting new players both at the Coldwater Club and the various other clubs where the tournaments are held throughout Ontario. Eleanor attended the winter shuffleboard round up dinner on April 10, and although she had been taking radiation treatments she was able to attend the dinner and enjoy the company of her fellow shufflers.
Many shuffleboard players will remember Eleanor and her shuffleboard partner Howard Snyder who played in many CNSA and OSA tournaments throughout Ontario.
For understanding…
The tournament is the 28,29, and 30th of May. The amateurs start on Monday and finish on Tuesday. The experts start on Tuesday and finish on Wednesday.
Ingersoll is a 3 Day tournament as we have 16 Courts. If you any other questions please contact me. 519-290-4400 or jcmccorbeil

OSA MEMBERS
AS THE AGENDA WILL BE POSTED IN MAY FOR THE OSA ANNUAL MEETING, WHICH WILL BE HELD JUNE 12 TH, 2018, AT ELORA, I HAVE ASKED THE COMMITTEE FOR THE CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS TO REVISE AND UPDATE THIS POLICY.
IT IS NOW IN IT’S 7TH YEAR SINCE ANY UPDATES HAVE OCCURRED AND THIS SHOULD BE DONE AT LEAST EVERY 5 YEARS OR SOONER IF THERE IS ANY CHANGES TO BE MADE.THE FOLLOWING CHANGES I WOULD LIKE TO PUT FORWARD AS I SEE THEM.
1. THE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS ARE ELECTED BY THE MEMBERS AND ARE IN CHARGE OF THE OSA. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE PUT INTO SECTION IV.
2. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE APPOINTED, AND THEY MANAGE THE BUSINESS THAT THE EXECUTIVE APPOINTS THEM TO BE IN CHARGE OF. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE PLACED IN SECTION V. ( THIS IS ONLY A CHANGE OF PLACES AS SEEN ON THE POLICY NOW).
3. SECTION VII AND SECTION VIII SHOULD BE TWO YEAR TERMS , NOT THREE.
4. SECTION IX- OUR FISCAL YEAR SHOULD BE APRIL 1-MARCH31ST THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
5. SECTION 11- SHOULD READ-DUES TO BE DUE APRIL 1ST OF EACH YEAR AND ARE GOOD TO MARCH OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
THIS IS MY PROPOSAL FOR THE COMMITTEE TO GO OVER AND THESE CHANGES WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE OSA MEETING. MAUREEN BRYAN SECRETARY OF OSA.

From Jim Corbeil:
I just thought I would tell everyone how we came up with the team letters “C”, “D”, and “N”. “CDN” is short for “Canadian”. We all are on the Canadian team.
ABC teams, players might have thought “Why am I not on the A team?”, or “Is the A team a better team than B or C?”.
Jim Corbeil, President CNSA.
Because the original posting of the teams was in Microsoft Word format (docx), which may be unreadable for some folks, we are also publishing the teams list as a PDF – attached.
From Jim Corbeil –
Congratulations!
I would like to congratulate all the players who were selected to play at the High River ISA Team Tournament this July.
Thank you to all the players for your support of this event.
For those many players who were not selected I thank you for your applications.
If there is any cancellations we will keep your names on file and select a replacement.
If you are interested in playing on a UN Team when they are formed or being a non playing Team Captain please let me know.
I want to thank the selection committee for their hard work selecting the players for this years ISA Team Tournament.
We had a large number of applications this year because of the ISA Team Tournament being held in High River, Alberta, Canada.
I wish all the players that were selected across Canada, good luck, and enjoy…

More on previous posting re: Coldwater
From Gary Pipher
Hi again Bill. One or two items I failed to add in my previous email was that Coldwater hosted the very first Inter Provincial Tournament and it has been a very successful tournament that is held in a different Province every two years.
The other item was the OSA cargo trailer which the club backed in support of a grant.

Thanks Bill for re-posting the article from Stan McCormacks blog .What I failed to mention in the article Stan posted on his blog was that it was Rendal Bilton “President of the OSA” who made the unexpected but excellent declaration of Coldwater being the “Shuffleboard Capital of Ontario” and he should be commended for his acknowledgment of the never ending support the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club gives back to Shuffleboard.
The new President of the Coldwater Shuffleboard club “Carol Archer” is very keen on Shuffleboard and we look forward to her continuance of this unwavering support.
While Curling is currently ongoing in the Curling Arena the Shuffleboard have moved for the winter and now play on 6 roll out courts in the comfortable auditorium of the Coldwater Municipal Arena from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The courts are always filled and several players waiting in the wings.
Coffee and treats are served in the morning and afternoon and many of the players partake in a great lunch at the Royal Canadian Legion next door.
For anyone who attended the OSA tournament in Coldwater last summer you will no doubt remember Carol Archer for her beautiful voice and acomplished organ playing at the opening ceremonies.
Coldwater Shuffleboard has always provided support for other Clubs who were just starting up such as : Fergus/Nobel/Picton/ Penetangushene /Puce /Bancroft/ Wasaga Beach and most recently to Jim Corbiels new Club in Ingersoll ; and of course the assistance the Coldwater members provided to the Canadian National Shuffleboard in hosting the 2 International Shuffleboard Tornaments in Midland Ontario.
They look forward to the tournament they will host in 2018 .

There are not many readers who do NOT know that Gary Pipher is the former President, in fact the very first President of the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club!! He also served as President of the CNSA. The article below is but one fine example of the great work Gary has done to ensure SHUFFLEBOARD is before the World. Gary Pipher Speaks: Well we finally got the shuffleboard signs up in Coldwater. It was a long process but I guess it’s normal now for townships to follow all the strict regulations .
Before we could consider having a sign made we had to first get approval from the council with letters back and forth to substantiate the request. After a few weeks of waiting we were given the ok from council but we had to follow all the guidelines with the regulatory bodies. The Director of Public Works had to do…
