Shuffleboard started in Ingersoll on April 16. They play Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:30. They are located at the Ingersoll Memorial Arena on 97 Mutual Street in Ingersoll.
There are no walk-ins. You have two options. One is call 519-425-1181. You can book a block of times (a session). The other alternative is to go to http://www.pickuphub.net/ingersoll. You simply sign up with pickuphub and you can book up to 11:30 on the days they shuffle. The daily fee is $4.42 and they charge your card. I believe the session fee is the same “per visit” fee. I just signed up Ann and I for tomorrow and it was easy peasy. Way easier than the competition we’ll face. 🙂
Don’t forget, Ingersoll starts our 2024 OSA tournament season on May 28-30. You may want to get in some practice. 🙂
The 2024 Ontario Shuffleboard Association Annual General Meeting will take place following play on Tuesday June 11, approximately 4 PM at the Elora Curling Club, 27 David St. W. Elora, ON N0B 1S0.

Ann and I visited Rodney last week. A beautiful little town between London and Chatham. They now have eight courts. Judd and his crew were so nice. They made Ann and I feel so welcomed. Twelve of us played three “mingles” games. They have some darned good players in Rodney. I loved the courts. I couldn’t believe how consistent the discs slid down the whole length of the court. Maybe the best I’ve seen. You know the courts are good when I make good shots. lol. They all played some great shuffleboard. More importantly, they had fun! Thank you Rodney Shuffleboard Club for your hospitality. I can’t wait to visit again. 🙂
Mike Milne is looking for a partner for any/all tournaments. Mike is an Amateur but will partner in an Open tournament if need be. Please call Mike at 647 409 5665.
Just a friendly nudge. If you want to give the ISA a whirl, and visit Texas with the most awesome’est hosts, you better get your application into the CNSA. The application form and player package are available on this site and their site. The deadline to do this is April 15/24. Don’t miss out. 🙂
Norm, Bernice, Ann and I made the jaunt over to Scarborough last week to join in with their Tuesday play day. What a hoot. Ramesh and the gang went out of their to make us feel welcome. They have eight courts that play very well. The facility is first-class. And the members are the best. They are good, smart, and fun players. Thank you Scarborough Shuffleboard Association for running a very fine program. 🙂
Some shufflers from Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club participated in senior Ontario Summer Games this past summer. The following individuals have been invited to represent Ontario at the Senior Games in Quebec City this August.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to Gary Pipher and family on the loss of our friend and shuffleboard member of the OSA , Barb Pipher. We have so many special memories of Barb, as we met her through shuffleboard, she will be missed but will be always remembered for her contributions to the game and her infectious smile and laugh and warm spirit.
Matthews; Ross Harvey Dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Ross Harvey Matthews, quietly passed away on Wednesday October 11th at Orillia’s Soldier’s Memorial Hospital
Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club is located at 9622 Longwoods Road Chatham, Ontario. The courts are located on the farm of Mr. Dennis Mackiness. It’s a bit off the main road in the barn at the back of the property.
This year our membership fee was $30.00 per person. We permit a new shuffler(s) to play twice without charge. On the third visit, if one does not join, we levy a $3.00 daily drop in fee to shuffle.
The club members meet every Thursday morning at 0900 am. We play three games in the morning followed by a lunch break. (BYOL and Drink). The Morning games are a single mingle draw. In the afternoon, we played three games to build the house, teams selected by drawing a partner and board. The entry fee for this event is 25 cents.
We also have 4 club “tournaments” each year, and at the moment (Sept 2023) we do not have any set dates for these single mingle events in 2024. But, that may change once the 2024 season starts.
Opening day is normally the first Thursday in May. Closing day is the last Thursday of September.
Louis Beausoleil asked me to pass on the following information. With 43 participants, and a special thanks to Cyndi for all her help, the tournament was a great success.
Chatham will be hosting their last Singles/Mingles tournament of the year on Sept 14/23. The entry fee is $5.00. They are located at 9622 Longwoods Road in Chatham.
Play starts at 9:00am so do their organizers a favour and be there around 8:30am.
Don’t forget to bring your own lunch. There is nothing nearby.
Drive slowly while on the property. The owner lets us use the facility and he only ask us to drive slowly in return. We can do that.
This is a fun event. You won’t want to miss out. 🙂
From: Roger/Carol Kellam Mingle/Singles event a huge success.
The (Blenheim) Golden Acres Shuffle Club hosted a Mingle/Singles event with 49 participants on Friday August 25th. Henry Strong was the only player to win all 6 of his games to take top spot. Another 8 players won 5 games and placed in the following order: Murray Little, Gord Kirk, Ken Lefaive, Gerry Stull, Gord Delong, Brian Doyle, Moe Vermeulen & Edna Rendell. Many players drove a fair distance to play and everyone had a great time and look forward to another event in 2024.
On behalf of the OSA, we would like to send condolences to Bill Rovers and his family, on the loss of his wife Trudy , mother and grandmother of the Rovers family.
They both had been instrumental in the success of shuffleboard in St. Mary’s for many years. Many of the older members will remember them very well, always enjoyed playing at their club. Prayers to Bill and extended family at the sad time for them.
The last OSA tournament of the year is upon us. You ask some, they will tell you the best was saved to last. 🙂
To let you know, the format will be exactly the same as the Goderich Tournament. That is, amateurs will play on Tuesday, August 8. They will finish in the first day after playing five rounds during the day.
The open tournament will be Wednesday, August 9, using the same five round format, with the top 8 teams coming back on Thursday for two rounds of finals.
Registration will be 8:00am until 8:30am. If you do not have an Ontario Shuffleboard Association membership card for 2023, allow yourself another five minutes.
The venue is located at Golden Acres Curling Club at 430 Catherine Street in Blenheim.
The rules were posted on July 25. Take a boo at them ahead of time so you know what is expected.
It is a pleasure to announce that Henry Strong has accumulated 35 points … enough points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congratulations Henry. A job well done. 🙂
Thank you to all the members who worked so hard, to have such a great tournament for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you Gerrit and Gerdien for arranging a lovely evening at The Park House. Twenty five or more enjoyed a great meal, and great service.

I am looking forward to a trip to beautiful Goderich and seeing our shuffleboard peeps over there. I have a few items to raise. First, there will be NO lunches served at the venue. Second, the new format will be used whereby all amateurs will play five games on Wednesday and that tournament will conclude on Wednesday. Third, everybody can play in the open tournament on Thursday … another five games. The top four will come back on Friday to play 1 thru 4 main and the next four will come back to play 1 thru 4 consolation.
President Carol Archer, and Volunteers from the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club supplied the players with a delicious lunch of soup, sandwiches and desserts.
A nice surprise for us was a visit from Ella Rogerson. So many friends so glad to see her.
Just after lunch a storm blew into Coldwater, and we lost our power, so games could not be completed. A fire truck arrived, and we got out pretty quickly. This is certainly one tournament we will all remember.
28 Open Teams:
1st – Maureen Bryan and Bill Oostdyk tied with Murray Burnett and Ray Hammond
3rd – George Admiral and Jack Thorne tied with Bev Doyle and Marlene Corbeil
1st in Consolation – Rip Van Ginkel and Brian Doyle tied with Gary McLean and Davis Bryans
3rd in Consolation – Muriel Burnett and Dawn Hammond
Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club, would like to thank Carol Archer , president of Coldwater Shuffleboard Club, and all of the members of the club for putting on a successful OSA tournament. The lunches they served were very delicious, and their courts were lightning fast, a challenge for everyone. On the third day of Shuffleboard, playing the last game of the finals, during a torrential rain, the arena lights went out. Under the direction of Evan Engell, our tournament, Director, it was decided to share the winning monies and give all the teams their earned points, then everyone went home happy. This new format that we are experiencing has been working out exceptionally well, it may need a little tweaking, but Evan has done an exceptional job as president of the OSA. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this tournament win or lose, hopefully everyone had a good time.
The (Blenheim) Golden Acres Shuffle Club hosted a Mingle/Singles tournament on Tuesday July 11th. 29 participants played 6 -16 frame games each and Art Scott was the only player to win all 6 of his games to finish 1st overall. 5 other players won 5 games each and placed in order of finish. Bill Patterson, Norma Van Eerd, Jean Debruyn, Al Little & Les Lessard.
They will host another Mingle/Singles on Friday August 25 starting at 9:00am. If you wish any further information please contact either Roger Kellam crk@kellam.ca (519-676-3989) or Ken Lefaive cynthialefaive@hotmail.com (519-401-5705) .
Also a quick reminder that the club will be hosting the final OSA Doubles tournament for 2023 on August 8-10.

Bill Boyes
On behalf of the CNSA we send our deepest condolences to Max Tate and family on the passing of Ruth Tate on June 4th. Ruth was a great asset to the running of the CNSA. She was Tournament director from 2005-2015 and participated on various committees. Ruth was greatly respected within the shuffleboard community. This respect was marked by her being inducted into the CNSA Hall of Fame in 2022. Her strong organizational skills and her contagious smile will certainly be missed.
Please plan to attend the June 7th AGM meeting that will be held at the ELORA Curling Club, scheduled to start after the completion of play, about 4:15 p.m. Evan Engell –
Final Agenda
We hope you are planning to play in one or more of the OSA tournaments this summer. If so, here are some changes/additional details you should note as well as info on the 2023 Events and Results page.

Coldwater: Amateurs are one day on July 4.
Goderich: Amateurs are one day on Wednesday, July 26. Open is Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28. The contact is Gerrit Dykman (gdykman@yahoo.com and 519-441-1258). Have a look – https://shuffleondotorg.wordpress.com/events/2023-events-and-results/. Operation: If you rest your cursor on the website menu item for Events and Results you will see a drop-down list of available items in the category.
Please contact the person listed in the information if you have any questions about a specific event.
Next week promises to be a fun one. Come and join us in Elora (Centre Wellington). They have one of the finest venues in Ontario (except court 3 … gee, I hate court 3. lol.). Unlike court 3, the folks there are pretty nice. 🙂
Amateurs will play on Tuesday June 6. You will enter as a team and play with your partner all day. Registration will be 8:00 until 8:30am. If you do not have your OSA membership card for 2023, you will need to get it at the registration desk. The fee is $5 and is good for the entire season. Tournament registration is $20/team.
There will be five rounds during the day in a modified mingles format. At the end of the day, teams will be ranked by wins/points. The top four teams will take 1st thru 4th in Main while the next four teams will take 1st thru 4th in Consolation. We’ll finish by 4:00.
The good news is, amateurs can come back for the Open tournament on Wednesday, June 7. It will be similar in format except that the top 8 teams will come back on Thursday, June 8, for a traditional 8 frame, best of three 16 frame games.
Don’t forget, our AGM will be held right after play on Wednesday (approximately 4:15pm).
Location – the Elora Curling Club, 60 David Street, Elora, Ontario, N0B 1S0
The name of our club is Centre Wellington (because Fergus, Elora and surrounding communities amalgamated together).

Submitted by Maureen Bryan, OSA secretary.Ontario Shuffleboard Association Inc. General Meeting will take place June 7th, 2023 following play.Location: Elora (Center Wellington Shuffleboard Club)2, 9 David St. W. Elora
Agenda attached.
This tournament is being done differently due to the limited number of courts. Amateurs will play on Monday, May 22. Amateur finals will be Tuesday. Experts will play on Wednesday, May 24. Expert finals will be Thursday.
It is still an “any-doubles” tournament just like we’ve always had. That is, teams can be two ladies, two men, or one of each. Teams will play together throughout their respective tournaments. Because of the court restriction, I cannot have anybody play in both tournaments. Amateurs can play in the expert tournament IF their partner is an expert and they did NOT play in the amateur tournament.
The first day of each tournament will be a “modified singles/mingles for doubles” tournament. This means there will be chips drawn for court assignments and you will play the other team at that court. Although not likely, it is conceivable you could hit a team or court more than once. I will be controlling the byes so that they are distributed evenly (depending on the number of teams).
Depending on the number of teams, I suspect we will be playing a 16 or 24 frame game. It will NOT be best of three. Nobody will be eliminated on the first day of their tournament. I’m hoping everybody plays five games throughout the day and that we finish by 4:30pm.
The finals day for the top eight teams will be like our traditional tournaments. The top four teams will play for first through fourth in main while the fifth through eighth place teams will play for consolation placement.
Do NOT forget to bring a lunch. There is nothing close to the venue.
PLEASE drive slowly on the driveway leading to the venue. The owner of the farm has small children. He is not a shuffler but he is kind enough to allow us to use his facilities. Being respectful is the least we can do.
Our first OSA tournament for the 2023 season is fast approaching. Woohoo!!!
For those of you who have not played on real courts, you are in for a real treat. There are eight courts that can compete with any around the world. This venue sits on the edge of the Thames River on a private farm. And before I forget, if you do attend this tournament, please drive slowly and carefully down the driveway. The owner of the farm graciously lets the local club play on his property, even though he is not a shuffler. They have small children. We do not want to put any of them in danger … nor stir up a lot of dust as it’s near his home.
Because of the court count, we’ll be running this tournament a bit differently than others. For starters, amateur teams will play a singles/mingles format on Monday (May 22). Teams will play all day, albeit shorter games. Registration will be 8:00am to 8:30am and we’ll start playing at 9:00am. We will finish before 4:30pm. There will be a common lunch break and you must bring your lunches. There is nothing nearby.
The top eight teams will come back on Tuesday (May 23) for a traditional finals day to determine 1st thru 4th in Main and 1st thru 4th in Consolation.
Experts will follow the same format starting on Wednesday (May 24) with the finalist playing on Thursday (May 25). Because of the court count, amateur teams cannot play in the expert tournament. If you are an amateur, and you play with an expert, we’ll let you enter into the expert tournament. Under no circumstances can you play in both tournaments … this time. I don’t have the courts to do this.
Depending on the number of teams that register, you could play between 4 and 6 games on the first day of your respective tournament. Byes will be evenly distributed throughout the day. On the first day of each tournament, we are only playing one game matches … not the best of three. I’ll be bringing every chart combination with me so that we can maximize the amount of play on the first day of each tournament without over doing it.
OSA memberships can be purchased at the venue prior to registering for the tournament.
The address for this venue is 9622 Longwoods Road in Chatham.
As advertised on the CNSA site, applications are available for St. Petersburg this coming October. Application forms are due April 24. It will be a great tournament at a great location. Attached are the player package and application forms. Good luck!
On behalf of the International Shuffleboard Association, it gives me great pleasure to announce that six people will be inducted into the ISA Hall of Fame in the “Special Award” category. They are most deserving of this prestigious award.
The induction will take place at the 40th World Championship in October at St Petersburg, Florida.

We are trying to update information available about shuffleboard in London. Can someone with first hand information please comment with information about availability of shuttle board in London and who to contact? Much appreciated, thanks in advance.
This summer will be two years since Bridgewater’s IP. Winnipeg promises an equally fun-filled competition as they host the 8th IP June 18-23, 2023. Review the attached package. Let me know if you have any questions. Complete and return the Application Form to me before January 31, 2023.
The executive of the OSA wish to express sincere condolences to the family of Bill Pollock. Both Bill and Lorraine are well known to almost all Ontario shufflers for their significant contributions to our beloved sport.
I am excited to announce we have five OSA sanctioned tournaments planned for next season. Put the dates in your calendar so you don’t forget. Over the next few months, I will provide details of tournament format, amateur vs open dates, times, etc. Don’t forget, we also have the Inter-Provincials in Winnipeg the week of June 18, 2023. How exciting is this? 🙂
Chatham – May 22 thru May 25, 2023
Elora – June 6 thru June 8, 2023 — AGM Wednesday June 7th ( after play ends about 4:30 PM).
It is with much sadness that I share the news of the passing of Carl Rogerson on September 16. He is one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met. I know the whole shuffleboard community will mourn his loss and we all pass on our condolences to his wife of 70 years, Ella, and their whole family.
The attached obituary tells about some his beautiful life along with visitation and celebration of life details.

Come join us on Facebook. Search for a group called Ontario Shuffleboard Association. Ask to join as only members can see who is in the group and what they post. It’s a great way to stay in touch with your shuffleboard peeps. 🙂
Carl’s induction into the Ontario Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame was conducted at the OSA AGM held in Elora Ontario by new OSA president Evan Engell, June 14, 2022. Evan spoke about Carl’s history as president from June 2018 to June 2022, made more difficult because of Covid which shut down Ontario shuffleboard events and OSA activities until 2022. Evan talked about Carl’s leadership and presence helping us get through that difficult time.
It was following several years of service as an OSA board member that Carl was elected president (June 2018), a position he has held to the OSA AGM in June 2022. Carl was noted for his steady leadership style. Living in North Bay Carl would have to drive for hours to play in OSA tournaments in southern Ontario. With his bride Ella by his side, he would often be picking up shuffleboard equipment for others and he sometimes combined such a trip with his travels conducting his container business activities. Carl also obtained a container for use by the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club for storing equipment. A very busy man!
On the courts, Carl is well known for his white western hat and dapper curled moustache, AND for being a formidable opponent! Carl began playing in Florida in the early 1990’s and made PRO in 2007. In Ontario Carl has played mostly with George Admiral as his partner, making a very strong team indeed!
Evan remembered the first time he met Carl. Evan’s Dad was a Clearwater player and Carl had so many nice things to say about Wayne. It formed an impression on Evan that he will never forget. Carl’s efforts with the “Saturday” league in Clearwater, demonstrated his true love of shuffleboard. Evan pointed out that the testament to a true sportsman is his actions off the courts. Absolutely nobody is more loved than Carl both on and off the courts.
From Evan Engell –
Blenheim AMATEUR Tournament – August 2
The format of the tournament will change so that amateur teams will play five or six games. The tournament will start at 9:00 and finish at 4:00 with a proper lunch break at noon. You will not be out of the tournament if you lose. You will play all day and the tournament will finish in one day.
Don’t forget, AMATEURS are able to and welcome to compete in the Open Tournament on day two. Nothing is more fun than taking down an "Expert" team. 🙂
Please let your shuffleboard friends know about this. It will make the trip to Blenheim even more fun.
Sent from Evan Engell –
On behalf of the OSA board, we would like to express our thanks to Carol Archer and her many volunteer hands who put on a wonderful OSA tournament. Lunch was provided including many kinds of homemade soup. Not to leave out desserts too.
This was the largest number of players in a tournament so far this year.
It was so good to reunite with old friends and make many new ones too.
Everyone seems to gravitate to Coldwater, we always feel so welcomed and love their courts.
Wishing all the best to Coldwater, see you next season.

Save your “accommodation” receipts this year. Ontario residents can claim 20% of their 2022 accommodation expenses (ex. hotel, cottage, or campground) on their 2022 tax return. You can claim up to $1,000 as an individual, or $2,000 as a couple, and receive a refundable tax credit of $200 or $400 respectively.
Google it for specifics but, generally speaking, accomodation expenses while shuffling qualify for the staycation tax credit. .
Evan Engell President Ontario shuffleboard Association
OSA Tournament Director Evan Engell says “If you have ever been a State Amateur or Expert in any other country or jurisdiction, you are not eligible to play in the Amateur division of an OSA tournament; you are eligible to play in the Open division.
Congratulations to Carolyn Coulombe who should have been credited with finishing the Elora Amateur tournament in 3rd place Consolation. She had played in place of Norm Lindsay whose very sore arm prevented him from continuing in the tournament.
It is my honour and gives me great pleasure to nominate John & Lenore Holder to the Ontario Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame for the “Special Awards Category”.
In 2003 John & Lenore retired from dairy farming and moved to Pine Meadows Retirement Community. This is where they were introduced to shuffleboard. The Holders have always been involved in the communities where they have lived so it didn’t take them long to get involved with the shuffleboard and running the club. That same year they decided to be snowbirds and bought a home in Florida where they continued to play shuffleboard.
The Holders have participated in many OSA and CNSA tournaments. They have represented Ontario in 4 Interprovincial Tournaments. In 2011 – Innisfail, Alta, 2013 – Dieppe, NB, 2015 – Goderich, Ont & 2017 – Moose Jaw, Sask.
John & Lenore represented Canada in 3 ISA tournaments. In 2012 at Seattle, WA, 2013 at St Petersburg, FL & 2014 at Midland, Ontario. The Holders were on the planning committee and played a big role at the Midland ISA tournament to make it a successful and memorable event. Lenore designed and made the lovely flag arrangements for the banquet tables.
The Holders played in many tournaments in Florida with both of them achieving pro status. They played on 2 teams from their Lazy Days Park. John became the first Canadian President of the Lee County Shuffleboard Club and Lenore was a board member there with many duties.
In 2015 John & Lenore represented Canada at the first major UK competition at the Norwich Open tournament where again they made new friends. Another highlight of the Holders shuffleboard journey was taking the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Calgary. Rendall and I shared this trip with them….wonderful memories.
In 2009, John & Lenore were co-founders of the Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club. Countless hours of dedicated work and planning was put into this new club. The Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club held its first OSA tournament in 2014. That was always a wish for John.
The backbone of any organization is determined by people who work for it and the Holders have set a shining example of that. The club is what it is today because of the effects of people like you.
John & Lenore say “They are extremely proud and thankful for the opportunity of meeting and working with many kind and friendly friends”.
I am pleased to recognize all the contributions that John & Lenore have made to shuffleboard. On behave of Rendall, I am honoured to present the OSA Hall of Fame, special awards to them today.
John and Lenore are most deserving of this award.
Congratulations friends Rendall & Myrna Bilton

The AMATEUR starts July 5 with the finals on July 6th. The OPEN (Experts and Amateurs) starts July 6th with the finals on July 7th. Please plan for both days, but if there are a low number of entries then the tournament may require only one day.
There will be a “Shuffleboard Social” (Happy Hour) on the first day of the tournament – July 5th from about 4 – 6 PM. There will be finger foods and a cash-bar available. This event replaces the usual banquet due to the loss of our caterer Larry Lalonde, and the high cost of other providers.
