Come to Scarborough Shuffleboard Club – Fun with friends! We’d love to see you, and our club membership is only $15 per year! Play in a relaxed atmosphere on Tuesday mornings, September to June.
Our club plays at the Commander Park Community Centre, 140 Commander Park Rd., in Scarborough (Toronto) Ontario. We have eight courts on the second floor (new elevator!) and have lots of cues available for members and any guests who wish to join us. We shuffle from 9:00 AM to about noon on Tuesdays. We play 2 games of singles, break for free coffee/tea and cookies and then 2 games with partners. Before each game we draw for courts and partners. Members vary from experts to newbies and about 12 to 25 of us show up to shuffle each week. We have a 50-50 draw weekly – 50 cents per ticket to support our otherwise free coffee, tea and cookies. Membership is only $15 annually for our September to June playing season. (We are charged no fees for the facility, but cannot use it during July and August to save Toronto money for air conditioning.) We have a group lunch at the end of June to celebrate our year of fun and fellowship!
For updated info please see the posting from 2016 September
I am re-posting this because the original text was not included. – Bill B.
Another year of fellowship and fun from our shuffleboard club held at ELORA. Ended our season with wine and pizza, and storing our equipment for the winter months. Many thanks go to our members for all their help during the year, and making our tournament last June a great success.
Wishing all a safe winter season, good health to all, and see you in the spring.

A is for Apple!St Marys Shuffleboard Club WILL have the Apple Tournament once again September 21st, 2015 and a further reminder will be posted to this website about that.
The Apple Tournament was originally held every year in Thedford Ontario, and over the years it became a tradition among shufflers in the area, but in 2014 St Marys agreed to host the tournament: From the ShuffleON.org web pages of 2014* we learn: “… Tony Charrette in Thedford have given St Marys the okay to do their tournament for them this September, and it will be in St Marys until Thedford has enough volunteers to host this event again.”. “BUT”: A recent email from Thedford Shuffleboard Club president to St Marys president, discloses that Thedford “members have decided that they no longer wish to have a Thedford Apple Tournament”, and wish to repatriate to their own club, the original trophy which was donated by a now deceased Thedford member. Of course we do respect and understand the feelings of the family and club members involved.
We should thank Thedford Shuffleboard Club for all the years of Apple Tournament fun had by many, many shufflers, and we should also thank the St. Marys Shuffleboard Club for stepping up to the task of running the tournament in 2014 and again this year! Some questions remain, but we do hope that Ron Ferguson and the rest of the St. Marys Shuffleboard Club, will continue to host a “Big Apple Tournament” or something like it. It is such a great concept at this time of year, and remains, the “Last Event Of The Season”!.

From: J and B Mickle
Hello Bill: I am responding to your recent e-mail in which you requested information from Ontario shuffleboard clubs.
Shuffleboard was not totally new to the Ancaster Seniors’ Achievement Centre in Ancaster. It had been tried once, several years ago, but unfortunately ran its course. However, the courts which were incorporated in vinyl flooring in the main auditorium of the centre remained intact. (Ancaster has a population of about 20,000 and is located just outside of Hamilton)
I noticed the courts during a visit in April of 2014 and spoke to those in charge about resurrecting the game/sport. It was a bit of a struggle as we had no budget. However, cues were found and thanks to Rendall and Myrna Bilton of Elora and Ernie Thomas of Niagara Falls, discs were donated. The St. Mary’s Club also donated discs but they were unsuited to our floor. Yours truly repaired old, home made score boards which were found in a storage bin outside of the Seniors’ Centre and experimented with beads, wax and corn meal to find the right beading compound.
In late June, 2014 we opened for business (Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.) and to state we got off to a slow start would be an understatement. However, we persevered and eventually attracted some interested shufflers. At the moment we have 15 seniors who have come out. We only have 3 courts so we are not looking for huge numbers but a few more players would be nice. We took a photo of some of our players on Thurs. June 18 when only 7 players showed up. We usually attract a few more every Thursday. Members of the Seniors’ Centre are charged $1 each time they play.
It is fun, our courts are fast and we seem to enjoy each others company. Plus, play has really improved! If we can get our numbers up, we will be trying "Black & Gold", "Singles-Mingles" and "Hoss Collar" games from time to time.
As stated, it has been a struggle but in my opinion, well worth the effort! Cheers -John Mickle

We play outdoors on 4 courts which we had resurfaced and painted last year. We play Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. and finishing at approx. 3:00 p.m. averaging 3 games in that time period. I think that we had approx. 20 to 25 members last year. It is a fun, non-competitive group and we didn’t have any tournaments. Men and women play together and each game has the players pick their spots randomly.

Hello,
We recently played shuffleboard in the US and were wondering if someone could possibly let us know if there are any leagues in the Peterborough, ON area.
Any help would be appreciated.

2nd, Aug 6th, and Sept 3rd.

Almost every shuffleboard club could use a few more members! Club events are a great attraction, both to members and potential members. If you don’t have anything planned, then have a “FREE SHUFFLEBOARD” day, and advertize it in the local paper, bulletin boards at the mall, etc, etc! If you have any events planned over this season, let EVERYONE know! That includes us here at the OSA! We will put it onto our web site. You may even get some out-of-town visitors that way!
Please send your announcements and schedule to shuffleboardbill@gmail.com. Good things may happen!
Thanks,
Bill Boyes.

I would like to thank Gary Pipher for delivering the OSA Trailer to Woodstock. It is a long drive from Coldwater, and we really appreciate him and Barb for making the long trip.
Gary gave me a tour of the trailer and showed me how and where everything belongs.
We thank you very much Gary for all you do and have done for shuffleboard.
Thanks Jim.
P.S. I hope who ever is looking after this trailer in the future takes as much care as Gary has.
Editor’s Note: Picture above was taken at the Goderich tournament in 2014, where the trailer was on display. That must have been the first road trip for this extremely useful and attractive asset. Subject: Canadians win at Norwich Open
I thought you might like a little report on the Norwich Open held in Norwich UK this week.
Twenty four Canadians attended the event, including our own David Earle who did a great job as tournament director of the event.
Picture of players from USA, Canada and United Kingdom who all became friends by the end of the week.
Saint Andrew’s Hall in Norwich where the event was held.
The beautiful interior of St Andrew’s Hall “the Abby”.
Four Canadians placed in the event – Grant McRae fourth, William Bryan third, Maureen Bryan second, and the CNSA treasurer – Murray Burnett first place.

860 College St – near Ossington – there’s a newly opened “rescreational facility” called “Track and Field”! They focus (?!) on outdoor games. SHUFFLEBOARD included. That’s right – FLOOR SHUFFLEBOARD! You can also get a beer of glas of wine there. (Or was it the other way around? – I mean the “focus” part). We need a first hand report about their shuffle court(s)!
